Rondak, Isaac, Themba, Lilith, Claude, and Gertrude are sitting in Rondak’s living room, all relaxing after a long day at work. Slumped over couches and bean bags, the six lazily lounge around, barely awake. The dull buzz of silence fills the room as various mechanical appliances hum and whiz.
Bored, Rondak reaches for the remote control and turns on the television.
A loud sudden drumroll booming from the television set startles all of them awake.
“COME ONNNNN DOWWWWWWWWN!!!!” booms the game-show announcer as several spotlights coalesce on an excited person sitting in the audience. “You’re the next contestant on the WINNINGS WINDFALL!!!”
“Wow, that looks like it would be so much fun!” exclaims Claude. The contestant stands up, and skips down the steps and onto the stage, eager to win bucket-loads of cash. She joins the other contestants already on the stage as they compete for the grand prize. Lights flash and music plays as the popular game show begins.

“I’ve always wanted to be on a game show,” Lilith says, jealous of the people on the television show. “There’s so much excitement, and so much money at stake. You could win more than a year’s salary in less than thirty minutes. And there’s no risk at all, they just give you the moolah!”
“There’d be plenty of risk if you played Jeopardy, Lilith,” Gertrude said snidely. “Then you’d end up owing them money.”
“It would be great to go on a show like Deal or No Deal.” Said Rondak. “You don’t even have to do anything, you don’t have to answer any questions or do anything skillful. They just start offering you more and more free money.”
“Winnings Windfall is exactly that kind of game,” Isaac replied, explaining the show’s premise to his friends. “It’s so simple. All you do is stand on this giant circular platform, divided into pie shaped segments. It looks kinda like the board game pieces you use in Trivial Pursuit. You know, the six wedges inscribed into a circle. There is a light overhead that spins around you and if it lands on you, you could win millions!”

After a commercial claiming to cure toe fungus ended, the game show program started up again. The television camera zoomed in on the game show host who gave a cheesy grin. He roared: “We’re chock-full of cold cash but we’re running out of people to give it to! If you like money, we want you! Come audition for Winnings Windfall and win millions today!”
Eager to appear on a game show and become instant millionaires, the six headed down to the television studio where the auditions were taking place. You’d think thousands of people would show up for a chance at free money, but strangely there weren’t many people around. The six spent awhile searching for banners, buildings, anything that indicated that the auditions were taking place.
Finally, the sextet found a building that looked promising. They poked around for a receptionist so they could check in. Gertrude tried opening a nearby door. She was surprised to find that it led to the actual set of the game show!
Lilith was kind of disappointed by the game show set. Normally the stage would be very bright and colorful. The air would be filled with cheers and applause the set full of life and excitement. But today it was like the sun had set on the magical game show world. The stage was dark, shadowy, and a bit sinister.
“Where is everybody?” Isaac asked.
“Um hello? Is this where we sign up?”

The darkened room offered no answer to their questions.
“Gosh darnit, Rondak, you did it again.” Claude said. “This isn’t the first time you’ve cleared a room. I told you not to eat that bologna and mustard sandwich.”
Waving her hand in front of her face to clear the stench, Lilith casually walked down the audience steps closer to the darkened stage. Bored, the others started to follow her and explore the auditorium. If they weren’t going to have a chance to win the money on the real show, at least they could pretend to be a contestant in the theater.
All of a sudden, a booming voice erupted from the darkness.
“YOU!”
“Oh my god it’s the cops!” Themba shrieked. “Flee! We’re all doomed!”
Six spotlights appeared over each of them, illuminating them in the dark atmosphere.
“COME ONNN DOWWWWWWWWN!!!! You’re the next contestant on the WINNINGS WINDFALL!!!”
Bright spotlights overhead shone straight on all six of them. Maybe the audition was a reality after all! Their hearts pumping, each of them thought the spotlight had chosen them to be a contestant. They pushed and shoved each other as they rushed down the steps to be the first on the stage. All of them had visions of expensive watches and gigantic plasma televisions in their heads.

Eager to start playing the game and win some cash, each of the six spread out and stood on a separate segment of the colored circle. Each had their own pie shaped wedge that they would stand on. The lights were supposed to turn on, illuminating one wedge at a time as it spun around like a roulette wheel. Ultimately the lights would land on someone and they would walk away the big winner.
When nothing happened, they began looking above, around, and at each other anxiously.
“Where’s that catchy theme they always play at the start of the spin?” Isaac said hopefully.
The grinning host suddenly appeared from the darkness behind them at the top of the stage. It was still dark so his face was shrouded. Normally on television he appeared to be a friendly, jovial man but in the shaded room he struck a sinister tone. “It’s time,” he said dramatically, beginning his famous catchphrase. “It’s time to see who will catch the winning windfall!”
All of a sudden a wedge shaped light turned on with a sound from over head, illuminating one contestant. Slowly, it began to rotate around the circle, click, click, click, illuminating each person one by one. The click click click sound reverberated as the light circled faster and faster…

The light begins to slow down….
Click click clicking on each contestant as it neared its final stopping point…
“It’s you!”
The “winner” gasped.
“It’s your time to fall!”
The game show host pulled a lever, and the bottom of one person’s platform they were standing upon immediately began to fall out for one contestant, who started to crash far below and into oblivion!
But then this contestant nimbly leaped off the side of their disappearing platform, out of certain doom in the pit below!
No one has been Imprisoned by the Spies.
You will see everyone again! Judge Sam: “How amazing! 28 players in the game and one of them was Saved from Imprisonment by the Doctor the very first time! What incredible skill…” Judge Sam: “It looks like the Citizens have escaped scot free this time, with all 28 of you surviving to Exile 2. It’s now time to see if either the Spies or Citizens can take the definitive lead as the Democrats and Republicans return to Exile for round two. Votes will be due Thursday at 10:00 PM CDT ~ that’s only two days away! It’s much shorter than last time, so be sure to be ready to go. After that is over we will be on complete break on Friday and Saturday, so you can rest then. =) We’ll start back up on Sunday. Don’t forget to do activity 2! It is a poll in your section of the Burg. Please vote in the poll before Exile 2. Results will be revealed after Exile 2. I will see you live at Exile 2.” Never ignore a gut feeling, but never believe that it's enough. -Robert Heller
