Much of the Spies game setup will remain a mystery to be revealed as the game goes on. But here are some general details if you are familiar with other mafia games and want to know how I host:
- 26-32 people approximately.
- Cardflip is on: Spy / Citizen Alignment is revealed when players are eliminated. Roles are not revealed.
- Rounds are usually 5 days long and include a elimination by Spies (night kill) and an elimination vote by players (lynch). Nights are usually 2 days and Days are usually 3 days.
- Lots of the game takes place in private conversation on AIM.
- Closed setup. Roles are not announced at start.
- Roles are sometimes unique to Spies but very restricted and not as powerful.
- No roles or tiebreakers rely on random numbers.
- There are no serial killers.
- I don't interfere within the game other than pre-planned events.
If you have any other questions about how I host, please ask! You can post them here if you like.
There are also many special events that take place during the game unique to other mafia games. For example, every other round might have a bonus Activity that takes place. Past examples have included:
- An Awards Ceremony where people voted on and won titles such as "Biggest Vote Waster" and "Most Likely to Crack."
- A multi-stage puzzle challenge in which the group tried to defuse a bomb before it exploded in 50 minutes. All while managing to avoid sabotage or stalling by Spies.
- Players created creative memories of their experiences in the game, making videos, writing stories, photoshopping images, and drawing pictures.
- an Inquisition where players directly asked questions of one other en masse.
- Players took part in an anonymous, Evil Twin Costume Party, where they impersonated other players as their evil twin. They had a good time making fun of each other and pretending to act as their characters.
- bringing in an outside non-voting Private Investigator for three days with no prior knowledge of the game who interviewed all the players and filed a report on his opinions of who is a Spy
