Bring on the epic.

Just got my role as a Standard Citizen of the Burg. AKA the most powerful role in the game.
Let's see what we can dig up tonight. If I'm incredibly lucky, someone will screw up massively and claim spy to me. Wouldn't be the first time sadly.

Alright, well we already have people complaining about what teams they could get because of actual politics, so there's now a topic up that will hopefully get everyone to agree to not bring real politics into silly spies story politics. Hopefully everyone agrees to it.

Note to self: Look at Zed for a bit tomorrow. He didn't talk to ANYONE after the game started? Hmmmm.

Getting along well with most of the group so far, so that's a good start. Happy people are more willing to talk about interesting info then ones that hate you. Mary seems a little moody, but hopefully that will pass enough so she can play the game.

Well the teams are settled now. Talked to as many people as I could before that happened to get some impressions on everyone, but I don't think it really got me any new suspcions yet.
I think I got rather lucky teamwise. Most of the people I didn't talk to, or talked very little with are in the democrats, and most of the people I really got along well with are in the republicans with me. That's going to be really helpful now that we're down to the main spyhunting. I wonder how many spies managed to get on both sides?
Off to go post logs fast of last night!

Talked with Themba for a little bit about posting in the wrong subboard, and I think she's rather confused about how teams work. I tried to correct her about it, and at first she edited the post she had made in the Dem board. But then she asks me this stuff, and makes another post there.
spies8themba: but the sides have been announced?
spies8themba: are you worried your spies have been announced?
That does not exactly sound promising. Hopefully she understands how the team stuff is working soon, I don't seem to be making her understand at all. She's probably just new to forum mafia in general, and is getting lost on what is going on with what teams are for.

What's really nice? Youtube just added "Unlisted" Videos. They're like private videos, except you don't have to friend people! Don't show up in any searches at all, and can only be seen if you know the link. Of course, just in case, I'm still abreviating the heck out of the name of the video.

[21:30] spies8rondak: Why did you stay on your AIM name, then? [21:30] spies8alexei: exactly [21:30] spies8zedekiah: I dun know how t' sign off
....... Dear gosh someone help me.

Ok, Zedekiah wins the award for most confusing person to talk to. Holy cow.
[21:51] spies8zedekiah: I knew didn't know how to log off cus a message popped up, but I was logged on cus I didn't log off [21:51] spies8rondak: What. [21:51] spies8jenny: ... did anybody else understand that sentance? [21:51] spies8savannah: no. [21:51] spies8rondak: I need to find a potion of comprehension.
In the meantime, Alexei wants to share information with me and have us watch each others back or something.
[22:30] spies8alexei: look, I have a proposal [22:30] spies8jenny: Yes? [22:30] spies8alexei: you seem trustworthy enough, I need to ask you: do you trust me? [22:31] spies8alexei: because if you do, I think we can help each other [22:31] spies8jenny: Well I don't have a real reason not to yet. [22:31] spies8alexei: good [22:31] spies8alexei: look, you look out for me, I look out for you, and we share any information we get [22:32] spies8alexei: does that sound good to you? [22:32] spies8jenny: Sure. If anything interesting comes up, Ill let you know. [22:33] spies8alexei: alright, good to know. I'll do the same for you
Don't really know what to think of it for now, but I'm not about to tell a potential information source to go away. I'll just have to be careful for now.

Well last night was rather productive. Got our team finally into "game discussion" mode, and we should start learning things about people soon.
Looks like Zed is going to take the biggest heat for now, but it sounds like some people are wondering about a couple people that went after Zed, just with how they went about doing so. So this could get interesting soon.

Allan says I seem to be emerging as a leader because of how much I chat people up on aim. Really? I'd think talking with people on aim was fairly common at this point.
Nita and Allan seem to be going at it now, talking about finding intentions or some such. Allan is saying that Nita uses spanish to be remembered without saying much, and Nita is complaining that they've talked together for about 15 minutes so far. That does not sound like it'll end well.

See, NOW we're getting to the good stuff.
Allan is claiming that he has a town role to me. Something about "it being good for the town when a role is used on him" and it being similar to that "rubber glue" kiddie taunt.
[16:41] spies8jenny: Wait, so the role would reflect back to the roleholder? [16:41] spies8allan: well, and i get it too
Ok, trying to digest this. It sounds like... ok let's use our doctor. If the doctor protects him, he can use the doctor power for the night as well? That could be interesting.
He's also saying it sounds like there's one on each alignment like this, although he isn't sure on that.
[16:42] spies8allan: so if the nurse saves me i save someone else [16:42] spies8allan: i'm a lobbiest.... which is nice and ironic since my character allan hates lobbiests
Ok, I guess I was right about how it works then. He won't tell me the name of the role, but he said something about being a lobbiest, so I'll just refer to it as that for now.
See, this is why being nice and not turning down information sources is a good thing! Things just got more interesting indeed.

[21:34] spies8stephanie: hey jennikins [21:35] spies8stephanie: i was just re-reading the allan being stupid logs [21:35] spies8jenny: I like that name!
HOLY CRAP, I nearly had a heart attack. I thought she figured out who I was somehow, but I realized she was just making up a nickname for me.
I usually call her Stephi-kins, so she was calling me Jenny-kins. My real last name is Jennings. So I see "Jennikins" and my first thought is I seriously screwed up somehow. Geez louise, this game is going to kill me.

That probably came off as sarcasm, but I blame that on it being 1 am and being really tired.

Ugh, Allan is going to frustrate me I can just tell. He was refusing to talk with Nita because of the way she was coming off with her questions. There's always going to be people that are obnoxious, but it's a horrible idea to just cut off all communication with them.
Took me about 10 minutes, but at least I got him to just suck it up for now. Better then having him get lynched for that sort of stupidity down the road, especially when there's a chance he's one of our more powerful roles.

Is it really that hard to be coherant when typing? Really? First Zed, now Alexei
[20:47] spies8alexei: I never said I still think Zed is a Spy [20:47] spies8alexei: maybe read what I say [20:47] spies8owen: But you have no problem still pushing him as a target? [20:47] spies8tina: So you are voting him for what. [20:47] spies8alexei: I'm not voting him [20:47] spies8alexei: who said I was? [20:48] spies8jenny: Then what do you mean by this?
[20:44] spies8tina: Are you sure? Also can you explain your suspects to start off? [20:44] spies8stephanie: hi! [20:44] spies8alexei: Zed then Dane [20:44] spies8alexei: and yes, I'm sure
[20:48] spies8tina: I thought you did a little bit ago. Zed or Dane [20:48] spies8alexei: "then" is different than "or" [20:48] spies8jenny: Sounds to me like you're saying Zed is your first suspect, followed by Dane. [20:48] spies8tina: So who are you voting? [20:49] spies8alexei: yes, Jenny has it right [20:49] spies8alexei: Dane right now [20:49] spies8hambone: why dane? [20:49] spies8jenny: How can I have it right, and then you say it's Dane? [20:49] spies8alexei: yes [20:49] spies8tina: So Zed who you think is town is your SECOND vote. [20:49] spies8alexei: It was Zed, but changed to Dane [20:49] spies8alexei: I`m not sure [20:50] spies8gabriel: alexei [20:50] spies8gabriel: uh... .......... [20:50] spies8alexei: what? [20:50] spies8tina: How are you not sure. I know who my first and second picks are right now. [20:50] spies8jenny: Oh that's what you meant. I thought you were saying your MAIN suspect was Zed, with your 2nd highest suspect being Dane. [20:50] spies8alexei: I guess Zed would be my second vote as it stands right now
Is it really so hard to say who your top suspect is?

Well we're starting to come to the end of the first exile. I'm starting to think I could be in danger come night, because I am definitely coming off as a leader to people and if this spy group is anything like the one from spies7, they're going to pick off leaders like no tomorrow. Not to mention which I don't really like coming off as a leader anyways. I like making other people look like leaders while doing all the actual leading. No idea where the doctor is going to cover. I think that's going to depend on what team the doctor is on. If we got a republican doctor, they'll probably cover myself or another person that's been fairly vocal from our own team. If it's a democrat doctor, then they'll probably go for whoever has been fairly vocal on their own team. Now, for roles. We got a doctor in this game, but I can't imagine that there would be a cop as well. Especially considering the whole "copycat" power allan is claiming he has. An invincible cop doctor with two batteries powering him is funny to imagine, but I don't think that it's very likely to happen. I'd be happy to be wrong in that regard though. Speaking of Allan's power, I really must remember to have allan ask sam something about that power next time I see him. No idea what's going to happen at exile, although it's looking like Alexei is going to be our vote with a slight chance of Zedekiah behind him. I'm honestly not sure what would be more beneficial at this point, having them revealed as a spy or a cit. I mean you'd think that just getting rid of a spy right away would be good, but the past two games not withstanding, I think we might find better leads to continue on if whoever we go after comes up cit. Can't really put too much thought into that really, I'm not about to go around killing citizens just to get better discussion. That'd just be idiotic. So I guess we'll just have to see what tomorrow holds, and then watch the fireworks one way or the other.

Alexei was just exiled, and revealed to be a spy.
That's twice now I've started the game off by being on the opposing wagon of a spy. Maybe it'll be like last time and we had it set to spy vs spy? That'd be pretty awesome, but time will tell I guess.
Anyways, I got a few conversations from this episode I've yet to post, so I'll do that when I have a minute. Time for Episode 2!

Just wanted to thank you for updating me with your thoughts all the time I really appreciate it and enjoy reading it. =) Thoughts as I reread your confessionals for this episode: I liked the video! Can't wait for whatever it is you said was coming up. You've been the center of some role reveals haven't you haha. Do you think it was a good idea for them to come to you with it? What do you think you'll do with this information? That would be pretty funny. ;D Regarding cops, I have said in the past that I feel cops in Spies would be overpowered. I think cops are good for small games to facilitate discussion. But in medium / larger games it's too much information. To "fix" this mafia hosts have tried to do things like have paranoid cops, insane cops, mafia godfathers, and a bunch of other crap, but I don't like any of that either. First, I don't like lying to the players (saying a mafia is a citizen b/c they are a godfather is still lying). Second I don't like the random chance aspect some of them introduce.

I've been having issues getting it ready, since I really want to use a color printer to print off the leaderboard, but the only color printer I have access to is at work and technically another person's station.
Allan I think claimed to me because I wasn't hounding him as much as others were at that point (and is also apparently why he's sure I'm a citizen for now it sounds like), and he's going to have to get in contact with other citizens at some point to potentially make the most of his powers as "BY YOUR POWERS COMBINED, I AM CAPTAIN BURG."
Nita I think was more of a risk. I'm just fine with letting her live, she's pretty much a wildcard that has a bunch of objectives to try to do, and can work with either side just fine. I certainly could see some citizens ready to jump all over her for wanting to side with spies though. We seem to be working together for now though so that's a plus.
And yeah, I know you don't usually have stright on cops in spies, but investigations in general come by once in a while. Just saying a cop is faster to type is all. And as a note about Cop Sanities, yeah I can't stand them either myself. I'm am however used to seeing stuff like "You have an 80% chance of your investigation being successful. Otherwise it will be inaccurate/do nothing/give name of random role", which it sounds like you'd hate as well.

Yeah. I just don't like a deciding factor of the game being dependent on random numbers. Yes I know Spies uses them to divide the group into two teams, which would affect the game, and maybe you could use that as an argument against random teams haha.
I also don't like using private random numbers, as I feel there's no external verification for it to be trusted. I guess I just have less trust in hosts in general lol, which is why I like my dice rolls to be done publicly in chat, or at least in the presence of someone who can vouch that it was random.
In your example, the outcome of the game could change because the computer spit out the number 5 and the investigation didn't happen. I just think that's so silly. If the host wants 80% use of a role, then they should say "every fifth use, it doesn't work." That way it's still 80% but not random if/when it works.

Yeah, the idea behind it is so that people can't just play "follow the leader" and wait for what the cop says, since we had a lot of people just playing sheep to what others were saying, and that was only making it worse. Depends on the group for what works I guess, I'm fine with it either way usually as long as it is acted out as it says and there aren't any "sympathy rolls" with those randomized chances.
